I sew for therapy for depression and post-traumatic-stress disorder (PTSD). I have logged over 2000 volunteer hours sewing quilts for the VA Hospital in Prescott, AZ. I have given away to non-profits in the Prescott area (Blankets4Kids, Yavapai Humane Society, Big Brothers/Sisters, CCJ) over 500 quilts in the past 5 years.
One day someone asked me to make a custom quilt for his daughter who wanted to be a vet and loved those black and white cows. So, for $300 I made him a queen-sized quilt. He liked it so much I made another one with the leftover fabrics and gave it to him.
I did not think about selling the quilts. At an art fair in October 2013, a lady told me about etsy.com and how I should set up shop there. In my mind, since I was used to giving them away why not sell them for a simple price of $75 for the panels, $65 for the whimsical ones, and higher prices for custom orders and the more detailed quilts.
So, here I am with KELLOGGSQUILTS.
Each quilt reflects images I have in my head or visions in my dreams or just pure freedom of choices because I have no one telling me I cannot do that. Major step in my continuing recovery - I love quilting because, for once in my life -THERE ARE NO RULES!!! Whoopee!!!! It is fun to pair turtles and gum drops and make a checker board of whimsical patterns, colors, and no have concerns about matching anything.
I gave 23 years of my life in the military to reap the benefits of freedom of choice. Plus, the retirement pay and medical benefits are well worth all the stress endured in my various air force jobs.
